As a Bikram Hot Yoga teacher, I often get surprised looks when I say I still make time to practice. “But you’re the teacher!” they say, as if teaching replaces practicing. The truth is, it doesn’t. Not even close.
Behind every class I teach is a student—that student is me. I still step onto the mat, still sweat, still struggle, and still grow. Some days, especially on my rest days, I wrestle with the urge to just stay home. I’m human too. But I show up. Not because it’s easy, but because it matters.
Consistency doesn’t shout. It doesn’t need to. It's the quiet habit that pulls us forward, especially when motivation fades. I didn’t begin my yoga journey with "perfect" postures. In fact, many of them were far from ideal. What brought me to where I am today—physically, mentally, and emotionally—wasn’t talent or flexibility. It was simply consistency.
This applies far beyond the yoga room. Whether you're in business, fitness, parenting, or pursuing a creative goal—showing up regularly is what creates momentum. It’s not the grand gestures, but the repeated small steps that eventually shift the needle.
So here’s some food for thought: What could shift in your life if you committed to consistency, even when it’s inconvenient?
The next time you think someone “just has it” or is “naturally gifted,” look closer. Behind every seemingly effortless performance is a mountain of effort, built one consistent step at a time.
And sometimes, showing up—especially on the days you don’t want to—is the very thing that sets you apart.
